One of the most exotic, also the most extreme holes in golf is located in South Africa. The so called “Extreme 19th” is the highest (altitude difference between tee-ground…and the green is 400 meters) and longest par-3 hole in the world.
Although nobody even thinks about the statistics on this hole, everybody dreams of just seeing it, to make at least one shot and to enjoy marvelous scenery from the top of the mountain. Hole No. 19 is part of the club “Legends Golf and Safari Resort” in the wildlife area Entabeni Safari in Limpopo Province (SA). The idea of creating such an unusual hole belongs to the Englishman Graham Cooke, and the designer is David Riddle.
The tee ground is located on mountain Hanglip and the only way to get there is by helicopter, unless you are a skilled mountain climber.
It is because of the height that the flight of the ball takes nearly half a minute!
But, despite the sharp descent and such a long distance, it is hardly possible to lose the ball as there are five cameras following its flight. Moreover each ball is equipped with a GPS microchip.
The fairway is seeded with Bermuda grass and designed in such a manner that the ball, having reached it, rolls down to the green. The green is designed in the shape of the African continent and the shape is the exact copy of the African continent map. Which country your ball lands depends exceptionally on your skills!
This 19th, usually considered the “Clubhouse snack bar” is an additional hole for the regulation eighteen holes of the Legend, which is one of the over 35,000 worldwide courses available in Mobitee.
The main course was created by the collaborative design of many professional golfers Padraig Harrington, Trevor Immelman, Sergio García, Bernhard Langer, Colin Montgomerie, Justin Rose, Vijay Singh, K.J. Choi and Retief Goosen.
The greens fee for the 19th hole is 6700 south African roads which is 625 $, the cost includes transfer by helicopter, six special balls and an instructor.
A lot of celebrities played this particular golf hole. Morgan Freeman did not just play it but also made par, which is extremely difficult. The leaderboard can be found on the official website of the club.
One more interesting fact is that the resort offers one million dollars to the first one who makes hole-in-one! Until now nobody has been able to win this enticing prize.
